Abstract

Ramanujan-type congruences pertaining to integer partitions have been studied extensively by the likes of the mathematicians George E. Andrews, F. G. Garvan, Ramanujan and many more. In this thesis, groundwork is laid to prove these central results, with focus on the combinatorial explanations permitted by statistics such as the rank and crank. By utilising generating functions, we shed light on the connection between these partition congruences and combinatorial structures underpinning them.
