Refurbishment project
YOUR LIBRARY, YOUR EXPERIENCE
What’s Happening?
Â鶹Éçmadou have been working with the Defence Projects Team on an exciting upgrade to the Academy Library! This project includes a much-needed refurbishment to the infrastructure of the building 13, levels 1 and 2. The refurbishment activities include:Ìý a lighting upgrade, re-painting, re-carpeting, new shelving, new bathrooms, new fittings, and upgrades to student/staff study spaces, as well as additional furniture. Ìý
Project outcomes are expected to significantly improve safety, accessibility and utilisation of the library spaces and provide a superior client experience.Ìý Ìý
The Library will remain fully available to clients until the last day of Semester 1 exams. However, to facilitate these exciting and much needed upgrades, level 2 will close from June 26, 2025, with service desk enquiries available on level 1 until the closure on July 7, 2025. We anticipate the closure of the Library will be for a period of around six months but will continue to update staff and students as the project progresses. Ìý
What does this mean for you?
During this period, we are committed to maintaining library services and minimising disruption. The Academy Library will be providing alternative service arrangements, including:Ìý
- Temporary relocation of our service desk - Lecture Theatre North (B32, near SR03)
- Access to current and new prescribed resources (textbooks) and continued support of course readings for Semester 2Ìý
- Continued access to Â鶹Éçmadou’s extensive collection of online databases, eBooks, electronic journals and other resources. (Did you know that almost 70% of Â鶹Éçmadou Library resources are digital?)Ìý
- Access to a subset of the print collections, including thousands of identified high-circulating physical items
- Encouraging all staff to borrow any physical items that they see as potentially valuable for their teaching and/or research
- Providing extended renewals of all items currently on loan – all loans will be issued to March 2026, although the recall service will remain in operation for items needed by other clients or for prescribed resources or course readings management
- Loans from other library networks via the (i.e. borrowing from other university libraries in the ACT region) or via interlibrary loan services (delivered to Canberra)Ìý
- Extended digital and librarian support via our library website and . Ìý
- Special Collections’ access and delivery for students, academics & researchers will continue as normal! All face-to-face services (including viewings, classes, consultations, events) will be delivered via temporary spaces on campus, with online curatorial support available via the page. Ìý
Next Steps:
The project is currently going through the tender process. Further updates will be shared via the Canberra Hub and All Staff Newsletter as the project progresses, including confirmed dates and any changes to services. We anticipate the closure to occur any time from August 2025. Ìý
We appreciate your patience and cooperation during this time, and we are looking forward to welcoming you back to a significantly enhanced library environment once the renovation is complete. Ìý
If you have any questions or require assistance with library services during the closure, please
Thank you for your understanding and support.Ìý
