Jiaying Qian is a practice-based PhD candidate, researcher, and designer at Â鶹Éçmadou Art, Design & Architecture. A graduate of the Bachelor of Design (Honours) program at Â鶹Éçmadou, Jiaying’s work focuses on co-creative textile production through collaborations between human, biological, and digital agents.
Her research bridges speculative design, bio-design, and computational fabrication, with a particular emphasis on smart textiles and innovative textile production processes. Through this interdisciplinary lens, Jiaying investigates how design can evolve into a shared process shaped by diverse human and non-human contributors—opening new conversations around digital twins, ecological entanglement, and symbiotic making.
