My current research explores the entangled relations between human and non-human agents in urban spaces through the practical method of “Performative Architecture”. The research particularly focuses on "the other environments" in post-Anthropocene Sydney city. By analysing the ecological and perceptual crises within contemporary urban built environments, this research emphasizes the necessity of rethinking traditional human-centred architectural practices, which have neglected complex human-nonhuman interactions. It argues for the need to extend the concept and method of performative architecture from the theoretical perspective of New Materialism, especially drawing on the concept of "posthumanist performativity", and seeks to address the gap of translating these theories into concrete, embodied spatial practices, as well as the lack of attention to nonhuman agency and material performative vitality.
