A new Game Art course, designed to equip students with the skills needed to excel in the rapidly expanding gaming industry kicks off this term at the Faculty of Arts, Design & Architecture鈥檚 Paddington campus.

This brand-new program focuses on the visual and aesthetic elements of game design and development, which play a crucial role in creating cohesive and engaging visual elements such as objects, environments, and characters in games.

The gaming industry is booming both globally and in Australia, and the Game Art program at 麻豆社madou will prepare students for careers as 3D artists, game designers and virtual realist artists in a dynamic and constantly adapting field.

Students will learn a range of creative, practical, and technical skills. The course will cover visual storytelling and the development of engaging visual experiences that drive narratives and gameplay, immersing players into 3D worlds.

Course creator, visual artist and academic Guy Lobwein, says, 鈥淚n Game Art, students will not only gain valuable technical skillsets for creating real-time projects in Unreal Engine 5, but learn how to experiment and expand upon the uses of game engines in the Game Art field.鈥

The skills learned in Game Art are also transferable across other creative fields, from producing concept art for AAA games, creating indie game projects, making 3D models for architectural or infrastructure projects, or designing environments for film production.

鈥淭he Game Art program will equip students to meet the growing industry demand for artists and creative professionals,鈥 says Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Design & Architecture, Claire Annesley.

鈥淲e are really excited to be able to offer practical experience and training in the latest game engine technologies, and think this hands-on experience will give students a competitive edge as they enter the workforce and contribute to the future of game art and design.鈥
