Welcome to our Biologics and Biomaterials Synthesis and Characterisation Laboratories. 

Our facilities support research in molecular sciences, biotechnology, and biomaterials. We offer advanced tools for molecular research, including protein study, gene editing with CRISPR, and biosensing. Our biomaterials facilities support polymer synthesis, 3D printing, and tissue analysis. We also provide imaging, electrophysiology, and animal research facilities to advance preclinical studies and clinical applications.

Molecular Sciences & Biotechnology

Our state-of-the-art facilities provide researchers with the tools they need to unravel the complexities of biological processes at a molecular level. These facilities are equipped with advanced instrumentation for the study of proteins and genes, enabling recombinant protein expression and the isolation of biological components from cells and tissues. In addition, we provide access to the latest advancements in biosensing and CRISPR technology, thereby supporting molecular diagnostics and gene editing research.

Biomaterials Design and Characterisation

Our dedicated facilities are specifically designed for the creation, production, and analysis of biomaterials. Our laboratories boast advanced equipment for polymer synthesis and processing, allowing researchers to engineer innovative biomaterials with tailored properties. We offer a range of tools for material fabrication and customisation, including 3D printing, electrospinning, and microfluidics. Our facilities enable detailed characterisation of the physical properties of biomaterials, including a dedicated laboratory for the mechanical characterisation of soft materials and biological tissues.

Cell Culture and Histology

Our cell culture facilities, which comply with PC2 and OGTR standards, offer a regulated environment for the growth and manipulation of diverse cell types. A dedicated histology facility enables in-depth examination of tissue samples, contributing to significant advancements in regenerative medicine and tissue engineering. 

Imaging

Our laboratories utilise sophisticated imaging techniques, including light, fluorescence, and confocal microscopy to allow researchers to observe biological processes with remarkable precision and detail. 

Electrophysiology

Our facilities are equipped for patch clamp and multichannel electrophysiology, optogenetics, and light-based methods, supporting comprehensive studies of cellular and tissue electrophysiology and their modulation by biomedical devices in both in vitro and in vivo settings.

Animal Housing and Surgical Facilities

Upholding ethical standards and best practices, our laboratories provide essential resources for animal research, including onsite access to housing facilities and surgical suites and tools for small and large animals. These facilities support a wide range of preclinical studies, facilitating the translation of research findings into clinical applications.
