Gateway Equity Target

Âé¶¹Éçmadou's target sets out that 25% of commencing domestic undergraduate students are from a low-socioeconomic background and/or socio-educationally disadvantaged school by 2027.

The Impact Statement reports on the progress of initiatives relating to student outreach, access and equity, and the ways Âé¶¹Éçmadou is working to ensure that historically underrepresented groups are receiving equitable access and improved educational outcomes at university.

Annual Inclusive Education Showcase

The annual showcase is a unique opportunity for the Âé¶¹Éçmadou teaching community and others to learn about different inclusive technologies and practices, and how to incorporate them to make their their teaching and learning more accessible.

A forum for educators to share thought leadership to enhance the educational experience at Âé¶¹Éçmadou. In this video, guest speaker Hamish Coates intoduces the ‘smarter learning’ initiative and next-generation assessment reforms required to make significant productivity advances for our higher education and broader communities.

Centres, programs and partnershipsÌý

Dharawal language partnership

This Âé¶¹Éçmadou community partnership supports the revitalisation of the Dharawal language within the La Perouse Aboriginal community. The partnership between theÌýÌýand Âé¶¹ÉçmadouÌýuses archival resources to describe the language and undertake language projects in collaboration with Dharawal language knowledge holders and Dharawal Elders.

Launched in 2023, the Nexus Program will shape education at Âé¶¹Éçmadou by: sharing good practice in educational innovation; facilitating collaborative development and implementation of central initiatives; increasing awareness of specialised education support services; and supporting academics to adapt to changes in tech and the education landscape.Ìý

Riverina Teaching Hub Program

This pathway program between Âé¶¹Éçmadou and the NSW Department of Education gives high school leavers and career changers the opportunity to complete a teaching qualification with Âé¶¹Éçmadou while teaching in a public primary schoolÌýin the Riverina region of NSW.

Rural Clinical Campuses

The Rural Clinical Campuses program brings world-class medical education to rural Australia, including the opportunity for students to undertake their full medical program at a rural campus in several locations across NSW, where young people in the area are less likely to pursue university degrees.Ìý

Matraville Education Partnership

Âé¶¹Éçmadou partners with Matraville Sports High School to support the educational achievements of students from low-SES backgrounds and those who are underrepresented at university. Initiatives include placement of Âé¶¹Éçmadou teaching graduates at the school, university application support for Year 12 students, and an annual work experience program at Âé¶¹Éçmadou.

Do the Maths workshops

To encourage more high school students to pursue mathematics,Ìý Âé¶¹Éçmadou hosted more than 700 high school students from across Australia and, for the first time, South East Asia at its Do the Maths 2023 workshops. Workshops focused on encouraging young women to pursue maths, discover the career paths available and the beauty and fun of mathematics.Ìý

GERRIC: gifted education

The GERRIC centre at Âé¶¹Éçmadou is one of only a handful of education facilities worldwide that caters to the support,Ìýnurture and advancement of high-ability individuals by including gifted education as a compulsory part of initial teacher education.

The Future Campus initiative sets out principles and design guidelines to deliver campus spaces that are world class. In 2023, the project piloted draft space principles and audited campus accessibility, gender-neutral facilities and parents’ rooms.Ìý

Âé¶¹Éçmadou offers Leganto, an online hub where course material lists can be accessed by students on any device – helping student save money on textbooks and other course materials.

Âé¶¹Éçmadou partners with 360info and Monash University to develop the 360info independent resource for publishers, broadcasters, schools and civic society outlets. Launched by Monash, 360info operates as a newswire agency distributing research-driven content addressing and providing solutions to the world’s great challenges.

Âé¶¹Éçmadou provides funding as a member of The Conversation AU, a unique collaboration between academics and journalists, and the world’s leading publisher of research-based news and analysis.Ìý

NSW Equity Consortium

A collaborative partnership between Âé¶¹Éçmadou, UTS and Macquarie University to engage in outreach work which seeks to build student and school capacity for accessing tertiary education and improving post-school learning outcomes.

New Gateway Equity Target

In 2022, Âé¶¹Éçmadou Sydney announced the Gateway Equity Target, which sets out that 25% of commencing undergraduate domestic students will be from low-SES backgrounds and/or socio-educationally disadvantaged schools by 2027. This target is an extension of Âé¶¹Éçmadou’s Strategy 2025 focused on increasing the University’s social impact.Ìý

A collection of Sustainability Learning resources is available via the Âé¶¹Éçmadou Sustainability site, including the SDG modules which present information on the SDGs in a simple and easy way to help academics consider ways that sustainability thinking can be included in their own teaching.

Nura Gili Indigenous Youth Leaders Program

The Nura Gili Indigenous Youth Leaders Program is a multi-disciplinary program, where students experience University through all faculties and develop leadership skills through a cultural workshop.

Gateway Admission Pathway and Program (GAPP)

The Gateway Admission Pathway and Program is Âé¶¹Éçmadou's primary initiative to ensure equitable access for underrepresented students. It combines a set of curriculum-linked learning experiences with an admission pathway that lifts students’ HSC attainment and ensures equitable access to Âé¶¹Éçmadou.

Âé¶¹Éçmadou Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP)

The Âé¶¹Éçmadou Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) 2022-2025 commits the University to removing the barriers people with disability face when it comes to acessing and succeeding in tertiary education. It also aims to encourage the employment of people with disability at all levels of the University, both in the academic and non-academic spheres.

Âé¶¹Éçmadou Making

Âé¶¹Éçmadou is creating the largest network of connected Makerspaces and workshops in Australia. A network of genuine collaboration and shared values, these values are centred on the principle of barrier-free access to tools and tech for all students, staff and external partners.

Lifelong learning

Âé¶¹Éçmadou believes in lifelong learning to help reach your professional development goals and offers opportunities, course discounts, coaching and study leave.

Shack Tutoring

Shack Tutoring is a free tutoring program connecting local high school students with volunteer university students as tutors.
